Research shows that a strong connection between therapist and client is crucial for successful mental health treatment. Many clinics simply match clients with the first available therapist, which often leads to a lengthy process of trial and error. It can take weeks or even months to realize that a therapist may not be the right fit for you.
At Ballard Clinic, we’ve developed a meticulous matching system designed to pair clients with therapists based on their areas of expertise, individual goals, and personalities. This way, you can start your journey toward healing with the right support from day one.

Call 612-787-2344 to speak with one of our Intake Coordinators. Otherwise, you can complete the Contact Form and one of our Intake Coordinators will promptly reach out to you via phone. During this call, we will gather a lot of information from you so we can better understand your specific concerns.
Using our intricate matching system, we consider factors such as age, areas of concern, personality preferences, (and more!) to ensure the best fit between client and therapist.
Dr. Ballard, our founder, oversees the process of matching clients with therapists to help ensure a strong connection from the very beginning. If we believe we’re not the best fit for your needs, we’ll gladly refer you to a trusted professional in the community.
Together, we'll find a convenient time for your initial diagnostic assessment session. During this first session, you and your child will meet with your therapist so they can gather more information and discuss a treatment plan (older teens and young adults often prefer to meet individually with the therapist). Together, you will likely book follow-up therapy sessions, so please bring your calendars! Clients typically begin with weekly therapy sessions.
For some clients, therapy can be a short-term process targeting a specific concern. For others, it can be a longer-term process where clients gain insights and ongoing support to continue making forward progress. For younger children, we often incorporate parents into the therapy sessions.
We want to see all of our clients achieve their therapy goals. When that happens, some clients choose to pause or discontinue therapy. For those clients who wish to return to therapy or check in about new areas of concern that arise, simply reach back out to your therapist or call our team. We are always here for you!
Additionally, our therapists use a collaborative approach and work with schools in developing accommodations for our clients. When appropriate, we can consult with teachers, advocate for 504 plans or IEPs, and encourage accommodations for standardized testing.
