Exposure Therapy

  1. Creating an Exposure Hierarchy: With the guidance of a therapist, you and your child develop a step-by-step plan for approaching their fear. For instance, a child afraid of bees might start with looking at pictures of bees or reading books about them.
  2. Gradual Exposure: During therapy sessions, your child practices exposure to their fear at a manageable level. At first, they may feel anxious, but this discomfort diminishes over time as they gain confidence.
  3. Progression and Mastery: Once your child feels comfortable with the initial step, they move to the next level of their hierarchy, continuing until they can face their fear with little to no anxiety.
